In the 80’s I did catch quite a few protests in San Francisco – just in my daily jaunts around town. They were all peaceful, and they made strong statements – exactly why peaceful protests are the most powerful. Once a protest gets violent – the message is lost and it then turns into a blame game with finger pointing – and much, much worse today than it was back in 1989 when I took this photo.
